Chickens are Good for Your Health

I knew it; chickens are good for you! Certainly their eggs are. A new study published in the International Journal of Obesity found that people who ate 2 eggs at breakfast lost 65 percent more weight, on average, than those who ate the same number of calories in a breakfast of bagels. Plus, egg-eaters had higher energy levels and didn’t experience an increase in “bad” cholesterol.

Now, if only someone would do a study confirming my theory that holding and petting a chicken in your lap decreases blood pressure, then the Backyard Chicken Revolution really would take off.


  1. Somehow this reminds me of laughter yoga:
    (Laughter yoga is founded on the idea that the action of laughing - even forced - releases endorphins and enhances one's overall feeling of well being.) We could combine this into laughing while petting a chicken on one's lap. Let's think of a catchy title! Chicken-yoga? Poultry-petting? :-)

  2. Ha ha, I think you're on to something! Chickens are very funny, I laugh a lot while watching them. I love the idea of laughter yoga, I've posted the link on the left. (Thinking of chickens doing yoga is really funny!)

  4. Yes, each chicken lays a different colored egg. Roxanne lays light brown eggs, Cleo lays olive green eggs and Lulu lays pale blue eggs. The color of the egg depends on the breed of the chicken. Even though the eggs look different, they taste the same and have the same nutritional value.
